FAQs

Q1: How do I measure my seat to find the right size cover?

Measure in two places. First, measure the seat back height: start at the inside of the seat cushion where you sit, and measure straight up to the top of the headrest or the top of the backrest — whichever is taller. Second, measure the seat back width at its widest point. Match your seat back height to the closest cover size: 16", 18", 20", 23", 25", 28", 32", or 35". If you're between two sizes, size up — a slightly larger cover fits better than one that's too small.

Q2: What if I'm between sizes?

Always size up. A cover that's one size too large can be cinched and tucked to fit acceptably. A cover that's one size too small will not stretch to fit and will not stay in place during operation. When in doubt, contact us at 541-401-5933 or contact@equipmentseatcovers.com with your seat measurements and we'll recommend the correct size.

Q3: Does the Super High Back 35" cover fit a CAT 320?

Yes. The Super High Back 20x35" cover fits the CAT 320, 323, 329, and 335 series seats. It also fits Komatsu PC200-8, PC240, and PC290; Hitachi ZX200 and ZX240; Volvo EC220 and EC300; Doosan DX235 and DX300; and Hyundai HX220 and HX300. These are universal fit covers — they are designed to accommodate the most common super-high-back excavator seat dimensions across major brands.

Q4: Will a universal fit cover stay in place during a full shift?

Yes, when correctly sized. Our covers include tightening straps and cinch cords that secure the cover to the seat. Customers report the covers fit well and stay in place on backhoes, forklifts, and loaders across a full workday. The key is choosing the right size — an incorrectly sized cover will shift. If you're unsure, contact us before ordering.

Q5: My excavator has a KAB seat with a non-removable headrest — will the cover still fit?

Yes. KAB seats are known for headrests that are not readily removable. Our covers are one peice designed to slip over the seat without requiring headrest removal. The seat back cover goes on first, then the bottom cover. If you have specific questions about KAB seat compatibility, call us and we'll walk you through the installation.

Q6: Do you make covers for mini excavators (under 8 ton)?

Yes. The Mid Back 20x25", Small Mid back 18"x 23", Low Back 20x20", Small Back 20x18", and Mini Back 20x16" covers are designed for compact and mini excavator seats. Common fits include Bobcat E35/E50/E85, CAT 303/305/308, Komatsu PC35/PC55/PC78, and Kubota KX040/KX057/KX080. Measure your seat back height and match to the closest cover size.

Q7: What machines does the Mid Back 25" cover fit?

The Mid Back 20x25" cover fits skid steers, compact track loaders, and backhoes with mid-height seat backs including: Bobcat S550, S570, S595, S650, S750; CAT 232, 242, 262, 272, 299; Case SR210, SR240; John Deere 318G, 326G; and Gehl R190, R220. Measure your seat back to confirm fit before ordering.

Q8: What is the difference between canvas and vinyl seat covers?

Canvas is a heavy-duty woven fabric — breathable, comfortable for long shifts, and highly resistant to tears, abrasion, and grease. It performs best on outdoor construction equipment (excavators, loaders, dozers, backhoes) where operators spend 8–12 hours in the seat. Vinyl is 100% waterproof, wipes clean instantly with a damp cloth, and is ideal for forklifts, indoor warehouse equipment, and machines used in wet or chemical environments. Both materials are water-resistant, heavy-duty, and manufactured in the USA. The choice comes down to your environment: outdoor construction = canvas; indoor or wet = vinyl.

Q9: Is canvas or vinyl better for a forklift?

This depends on your environment. Forklifts are typically used indoors in warehouses, distribution centers, or manufacturing facilities where spills, chemical exposure, and easy wipedown matter more than breathability. Vinyl cleans instantly and handles repeated exposure to oils, cleaners, and moisture without degrading. That said, if your forklift operates outdoors in heat for long periods, canvas may be more comfortable for the operator during extended shifts.

Q10: Is canvas water-resistant or waterproof?

Our canvas covers are water-resistant — the fabric is treated to repel moisture and resist soaking from rain, mud, and spills. Like all sewn seat covers, needle holes in the stitching mean no cover can be fully waterproof — the correct term is water-resistant. For applications where full waterproofing is required (repeated submersion, pressure washing), choose the vinyl option.

Q11: How do canvas covers hold up to grease and hydraulic fluid?

Very well. Our heavy-duty canvas is tightly woven and treated to resist oil and grease penetration. Surface grease wipes off with a damp cloth. For deep saturation, the covers can be removed and machine washed. This is one of the primary reasons construction operators prefer canvas — it handles the daily grease, mud, and debris of a job site without deteriorating.

Q12: Can I machine wash my seat cover?

Yes. Both canvas and vinyl covers can be removed from the seat and cleaned. Canvas covers are machine washable — remove the cover, wash in cold water on a gentle cycle, and air dry. Do not put in a dryer on high heat as this can cause shrinkage. Vinyl covers should be wiped with a damp cloth or mild soap and water — do not machine wash vinyl as it can crack or warp in a washing machine.

Q13: Are Jay's Equipment Seat Covers really made in the USA?

Yes. Every seat cover we sell is manufactured in the United States using American-made materials. We are based in Eugene, Oregon and have been manufacturing heavy equipment seat covers since our founding. When you buy from Jay's, you are buying a product made by American workers — not imported from overseas.

Q14: Why should I buy a USA-made cover instead of a cheaper imported option?

Reupholstering a heavy equipment seat professionally runs $300–$575 — and that's the alternative to a cover that fails. Cheaper imported covers (typically $20–$45) use lower-grade fabric, thinner stitching, and materials that degrade quickly under real job site conditions. Our covers are built to last for years, not months. The cost difference between a $40 import and a $119 Jay's cover is recovered the first time you avoid reupholstering a seat.

Q15: How long have you been making seat covers?

Jay's Equipment Seat Covers has been manufacturing heavy equipment seat covers in the USA since our founding. We are dedicated to one mission: protecting the equipment that builds America. Our covers have been used by construction companies, rental fleets, agricultural operations, and individual equipment owners across all 50 states.

Q20: Can I get a logo or custom branding on my seat covers?

Contact us to discuss custom options. Equipment rental companies and dealers do add logos to seat covers — it's a common request for fleet operators who want branded equipment. Reach out with your requirements and volume, and we'll let you know what's possible.

Q21: How difficult is it to install a seat cover?

Most operators install our covers in under 10 minutes without tools. The seat back cover slides over the backrest top-first and is secured at the bottom with cinch straps. The seat bottom cover wraps around the cushion and is secured underneath. No drilling, no cutting, and no professional installation required. Customers consistently report the covers install quickly and fit well.

Q22: Do I need to remove the seat from the machine to install the cover?

No. The covers one piece and are designed to install with the seat in the machine. You do not need to remove the seat, disconnect any wiring, or disassemble any cab components. If your seat has suspension (air ride or mechanical), the cover installs the same way — the suspension system is not affected.

Q23: Can I install the cover over a torn or damaged original seat?

Yes — and this is one of the most common use cases for our covers. Our covers are a great way to protect your seats or cover a worn-out seat for a lot less than the cost of a full seat replacement. If your original seat foam is intact but the upholstery is cracked or torn, a cover will restore the appearance and protect the foam from further damage. If the foam itself is degraded, a cover alone won't restore comfort — consider adding a seat cushion pad underneath.

Q24: How do I keep the cover from sliding during operation?

Ensure you have selected the correct size — this is the most common cause of cover shifting. Once sized correctly, fully tighten all cinch straps and securing cords before operating the machine. After the first few hours of use, re-check the tension as the cover will conform to the seat shape and may loosen slightly. For vinyl covers on smooth original seats, a thin non-slip mat placed between the cover and the seat bottom can help.
